Reporting a figure that looks wrong

This is the most useful kind of report, and the one worth a little detail. The app estimates from the rates and usage you enter, so a mismatch is usually one of three things: a rate entered including VAT when the app expects it excluding, a usage figure covering a different period than a year, or a genuine bug. To tell those apart, it helps to include:

• The unit rate and standing charge you entered, for each fuel
• Your annual usage in kWh, and where that figure came from
• What the app showed, and what you expected instead

Please do not send your full postcode, address, account number, or a photo of a bill with those on it. None of it is needed to reproduce a calculation.

Common questions

Why is my rate lower than the one on my bill?

Rates are stored excluding VAT, with the VAT rate held against the tariff and applied when costs are worked out. Suppliers usually quote rates including VAT, so an entered rate can look about 5% low next to your bill while the final total is right.

Why does the price cap not apply to me?

The Ofgem cap covers Great Britain only. Northern Ireland has a separate regime, so the app says so rather than showing a comparison that would not apply.

Do I have to give my postcode?

No. It is used only to work out which of the fourteen price cap regions you are in, only the part before the space is ever sent, and you can pick your region from a list instead. See the privacy policy.

I bought What If Plus. How do I get it on another iPhone?

Open What If Plus on the Resources tab and tap Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple ID. It is a one-off purchase, so restoring is free. If an Ask to Buy request is waiting, Plus unlocks by itself once it is approved.

How do I delete everything?

Clear all data in Settings (on the Resources tab) erases every profile, scenario and tariff. Deleting the app removes it all too. Nothing is held anywhere else.
